Getting Married in Adelaide as an Overseas Resident
You do not need to be an Australian citizen or South Australian resident to get married in Adelaide.
Overseas residents, visitors, students, and temporary visa holders can marry here if they meet the legal requirements.
The main rules still apply
You still need to:
- lodge the NOIM at least one month before the marriage
- provide the right identity and supporting documents
- attend the marriage in person
- have two adult witnesses
- be legally free to marry
If you are overseas right now
You can often get much of the process moving before you arrive, including:
- preparing the NOIM through NOIM Easy
- sorting out the right supporting documents
- arranging witnessing
- sending paperwork for review
What takes longer
International couples often need extra time for:
- translated documents
- overseas divorce papers
- different locations for signing
- travel plans that depend on the one-month notice rule
Visa and migration point
Getting married in Australia does not itself give anyone a visa or migration outcome.
We help with the marriage side. For migration advice, use the official Department of Home Affairs or a registered migration professional.
Best next step
- start the NOIM with NOIM Easy
- click Get Married
- contact us early if your paperwork is overseas-based
